An interactive discussion between the moderator and the members of Bed Briefing House on ( The MYSTERY)
Date: 28 July 2020.
Venue: Bed Briefing House WhatsApp Group.
Moderator and Convener : Rev Fr Ugwueze Teclus.
(Collation: Adaobi, member of the team “let’s talk it App”
Fr Teclus started by giving explaining the meaning of mystery. In this words he said: “Mystery as an English word was derived from the Greek word Musteria meaning secret. It literally means something that is dark and difficult and impossible to understand.
In the New Testament times, Mystery is the technical name for something that is unintelligible to the outsider but crystal clear to the initiates. It’s meaningless to the strangers but supremely precious to those initiated. If you are initiated into Christianity, say JESUS!!! He continued,
Take for instance, for a non-initiate, the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist is like a gathering of men eat little pieces of bread and drink little sips of 🍷 wine. But for the initiate, it’s a sacred meal of the body and blood of CHRIST.”
On that note Fr Teclus raised his question: on: Taking the Eucharist as an instance, Is it really true that all those who have been initiated through the sacrament of baptism, really see the Sacred species as the body and blood of CHRIST? If not, can we take it that their initiation was invalid? Or rather what shows that their initiation is valid.”
Members of the house gave in their answers as usual.
One said that “Not everyone who has been initiated by baptism acknowledges Jesus I. D Eucharist. This where faith comes to play.. We believe by Faith that he is present there.
Their initiation is valid irrespective of their beliefs, whenever they come to realize the true nature of the Eucharish and willingly accept to follow Jesus as his disciple they become true Christians and begin to live out what has been estabished by baptism.”
Another said: “I don’t know if the initiation was valid but on the part of the person, it was either not truly done or it was of no significance and for those who were baptised at infants, and don’t believe in the Eucharist, I think it’s because they were not strong in their faith so they were easily drawn away.”
Another member also said ” I can actually say that it is not all who receive the initiation of baptism see the sacred species as the body and blood of Christ .
But their initiation is valid cos the church teaches that once you are baptised you have been initiated into the family of Christ.
As usual, the members of the house were applauded for providing the right answers.
Fr Teclus raised his final question A.
In his word he asked, “what can we do to enable our fellow initiates to participate actively and believe in the body and blood of Jesus Christ?”
According to the answers from the members, we can say: inviting them to Sunday’s evening instruction counts. We can also enlighten and educate them by cathecism on the Eucharist, and also pray for them that God may open their hearts to accept him.We can Live an eucharistic examplary life and helping in building their faith
Speaker4:By teaching them what the chruch holds as the truth concerning the Holy Eucharist through Catechism of the Catholic Church (1234-down)and other church documents.
