I wish to reflect briefly on the document issued by Pope Francis from the Vatican on 24th January, 2016.

The document invites us to live out the relationship between Communication and mercy. First and foremost, the Holy Father invites every Christian to express Gods compassion, tenderness, and forgiveness for all through our way of communication. In his words, if our hearts and actions are inspired by charity, then our communication will be touched by Gods own power”.

From the above declaration, we could say that communication has the power to build bridges between individuals, and within families, social groups and people both in material world and digital world.

On the other hand, mercy heals wounded relationship and restores peace and harmony to families and communities.

Every person who is in the position of authority should allow their diplomatic language to be inspired by mercy, in order to create lasting peace for the world. As regards the church leaders, their way of communicating may help to overcome the mindset that neatly separates sinners from the righteous. In other words, they should judge situations of sin and not individuals. This is because only words spoken with love and accompanied by meekness and mercy can touch our sinful hearts.

Moreover, listening is a veritable tool for communication. That is to say, technology does not determine whether or not communication is authentic, but the human heart and our capacity to use wisely the means at our disposal will go a long way in gathering the goals of communication.

In conclusion, Closeness is the power of communication. This is predicated on the fact that the encounter between communication and mercy will be fruitful to the degree that it generates a closenes which cares, comforts, heals, accompanies and celebrates. Against this backdrop therefore, I encourage us never to separate mercy from whatever means we use in Communication so that we can actualize the beautiful fruits and joys that companies every kind of Communication.
